Artist Statement

As a child, I lived a carefree life until my father suddenly passed away. It felt as if the world felt silent. I was only eight years old and suddenly I heard all the sounds of nature around me. It made a deep impression on me.

Years later, I discovered photography and soon realized that I had unconsciously been searching for the stillness I experienced as a child. Through photography, I also strongly felt my father’s presence, who was a passionate amateur photographer. It gave me focus and a way to capture the world as I experienced it. Nature determines what happens and at which pace and we are merely spectators.

Creating a strong connection between myself and a landscape is essential, as my images are not just recordings or registrations, but above all an invitation to self-reflection. An ode to the silence I experience at a location.

If my images make you pause for just a moment, the way I paused as that eight-year old boy, then I’ve done what I set out to do.
